POSITION PURPOSE: The IT Director leads the planning, implementation, and management of the district's technology infrastructure, systems, and digital resources to support teaching, learning, and administrative operations across all schools and departments. This position ensures that students, educators, and staff have reliable, secure, and equitable access to the technology tools and information systems necessary to advance the district's educational mission.
The IT Director serves as the district's technology leader, providing strategic vision and operational oversight while aligning technology investments with instructional goals, fiscal responsibility, and compliance with state and federal requirements.

REPORTS TO: Superintendent
EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated by the Superintendent in accordance with Board policy GDN: Evaluation of Support Staff.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field preferred.
- At least five years of experience in IT management, with experience in the education sector preferred.
- Experience managing enterprise network infrastructure, cybersecurity practices, and cloud-based technology environments is preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Relevant industry certifications are preferred, such as:
- Google Workspace Administrator
- CompTIA Network+
- CompTIA Security+
- Microsoft Certified Professional
- Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with Google Workspace for Education and Microsoft Active Directory environments, including group policies, user management, and integration with cloud platforms.
- Knowledge of network infrastructure management, including wireless systems, firewalls, switching, and endpoint security.
- Strong understanding of cybersecurity best practices and student data privacy regulations, such as FERPA and COPPA.
- Experience managing virtualized environments, Microsoft Server platforms, and cloud-based services.
- Experience supporting student information systems and educational technology platforms.
- Experience managing technology projects, vendor relationships, and technology lifecycle planning.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Strategic Planning and Leadership
- Develop and implement a district-wide technology plan aligned with instructional goals and district priorities.
- Provide leadership and direction for all district technology operations.
- Assist district leadership in evaluating and implementing new technologies that enhance teaching, learning, and operational efficiency.
- Develop and manage the technology budget. Ensure responsible stewardship of technology resources.
- Provide recommendations to the Superintendent regarding technology purchases, infrastructure improvements, and system upgrades.
Network and Systems Management
- Oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of district network infrastructure, including wired and wireless networks.
- Ensure high availability, reliability, and security of district technology systems.
- Oversee the administration of Google Workspace, Active Directory, servers, and other enterprise systems.
- Monitor system performance and implement upgrades or improvements as needed.
- Maintain relationships with internet service providers, vendors, and technology partners.
Technology Support and Professional Development
- Oversee technology support services for students, staff, and administrators.
- Ensure timely response to technology issues through helpdesk systems and support procedures.
- Provide or coordinate professional development opportunities for teachers and staff to effectively integrate technology into instruction and operations.
- Promote best practices in instructional technology use across the district.
Cybersecurity and Data Privacy
- Develop and implement cybersecurity policies and procedures to protect district systems and sensitive data.
- Monitor systems for security threats and respond to cybersecurity incidents.
- Ensure compliance with federal and state student data privacy laws, including:
- Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
- Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA)
- Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA)
- Maintain appropriate internet filtering and monitoring systems required by federal law.
- Conduct periodic cybersecurity reviews and recommend improvements.
Data Systems and State Reporting
- Support the integrity and integration of district data systems, including the student information system and other instructional platforms.
- Assist with the technology systems used for reporting to the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
- Support data integration and the technical infrastructure associated with the MOSIS reporting process.
- Ensure district technology systems support the required state testing platforms and online assessments.
Technology Programs and Asset Management
- Maintain a comprehensive inventory of district technology equipment and software licenses.
- Develop lifecycle replacement plans for devices, network infrastructure, and major technology systems.
- Oversee deployment, management, and support of student and staff devices, including mobile device management systems.
- Ensure appropriate documentation and tracking of district technology assets.
Federal Programs and Funding
- Coordinate the district’s participation in the E-Rate Program, including application preparation, vendor coordination, and compliance documentation.
- Assist with technology-related grant applications and implementation when applicable.
Disaster Recovery and System Continuity
- Develop and maintain disaster recovery and data backup procedures to ensure the integrity and restoration of critical systems.
- Establish continuity plans to minimize disruptions caused by system failures, cyber incidents, or natural disasters.
Collaboration and Communication
- Collaborate with district administrators, teachers, and staff to ensure technology resources support instructional goals.
- Communicate effectively with staff regarding system changes, upgrades, and technology initiatives.
- Serve as the district’s primary point of contact for technology-related matters with vendors, service providers, and stakeholders.
Personnel Management
- Supervise, evaluate, and support IT department staff.
- Provide training and guidance to technology support personnel.
- Assist in recruiting and hiring qualified technology staff when needed.
Other Responsibilities
- Travel between district facilities to install, maintain, and support technology systems.
- Assist with developing and implementing the district technology policy.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The employee must regularly use their hands to operate computer equipment and technology tools. Occasional lifting of equipment up to 40–50 pounds may be required. May occasionally climb ladders or work in confined spaces to install or maintain technology infrastructure. Extended periods of computer use may be required.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve-month employee. This is an at-will position that may be terminated by either the school district or the employee with appropriate notice. Compensation will be based on qualifications and experience and aligned with the board-approved salary schedule. The employee is eligible for benefits as established by the Board of Education for full-time employees.
