The Houston R-1 School District is seeking a highly qualified and dynamic Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment to lead the district’s efforts in enhancing student learning through curriculum development, instructional support, and data-driven decision making.  This position plays a critical role in ensuring that all students receive a high-quality education aligned with state and national standards.

 

The Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment will oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of the district’s Pre-K through 12th grade curriculum, ensuring alignment with educational best practices and state requirements.  This individual will work closely with teachers and administrators to support effective instructional strategies, model best practices, and integrate technology into the learning environment.

 

A key responsibility of this role is overseeing the assessment process, including the administration of local and state assessments, data analysis, and the use of student performance data to inform instruction.  The director will collaborate with building administrators and teachers to develop strategies that support student success, ensuring that instructional decisions are grounded in evidence-based practices.

 

In addition to curriculum and instructional leadership, this position will be responsible for district grant writing and management, identifying funding opportunities, submitting grant applications, and overseeing the implementation and reporting of grant-funded initiatives.  This individual will also serve as the District AI Coordinator, leading the development and integration of artificial intelligence tools and strategies to enhance teaching, learning, and district operations while ensuring ethical and effective use.

 

Additional responsibilities may include the development and implementation of all components of the district’s federal programs (including and not limited to Title and Perkins federal programs), MOSIS data collection and reporting, and leading district-wide initiatives and committees as identified by the superintendent of schools.

 

This position will report to the Board of Education on key areas, including student assessment data, the district’s AI plan, curriculum updates, and instructional initiatives, providing insights and recommendations to support informed decision-making at the board level.

 

The ideal candidate will possess a Master’s degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or Educational Leadership and hold a valid Missouri certification. An administrative certificate is desired.  A minimum of five years of successful classroom teaching experience is required with previous leadership experience in curriculum development, instructional coaching, professional development, or grant writing preferred. The candidate must demonstrate strong knowledge of curriculum design, assessment practices, instructional strategies, and the ability to analyze student performance data.  Additionally, experience in securing and managing grants and an understanding of AI applications in education are highly desirable.  Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills are essential for success in this role.
