Description

The Houston R-1 School District is seeking an engaging and dynamic instructional coach to join our team and play a key role in shaping the academic success of our K-12 students. This position may be part-time or full-time.

 

The Instructional Coach, having both content and instructional expertise, will work as a colleague with classroom teachers to support student learning and teacher practice. The Instructional Coach will focus on individual and group professional learning that will expand and refine the understanding about research-based effective instruction for teachers. In order to meet this purpose, the Instructional Coach will provide personalized, 1:1 support based on the goals and identified needs of individual teachers. This position is ideal for an educational leader passionate about curriculum development, teacher coaching, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

 

Qualifications: 

  1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university. Master’s degree in Education Administration or Curriculum & Instruction preferred.
  2. Valid teaching certification with at least 5 years of classroom teaching experience.
  3. Experience in curriculum design and teacher coaching is preferred.
  4. Strong knowledge of K-12 educational standards, research-based instructional strategies, and student assessment methods.
  5. Effective communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills for building a supportive learning environment with a common instructional focus, promoting initiatives, and conveying expectations.
  6. Ability to design and deliver quality professional development for administrators and teachers with outstanding presentation and facilitation skills.
  7. Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and function as a positive member of a team.
  8. Demonstrated ability to communicate in a professional manner both orally and in writing.
  9. Highly effective organizational and time management skills.
  10. Demonstrate willingness to assume leadership positions.

 

General Responsibilities: 

  1. Provide professional development opportunities to staff, focusing on best practices in pedagogy, assessment, and classroom management.
  2. Support and coach teachers 1:1 to improve instructional practices, differentiate instruction, and enhance student engagement.
  3. Analyze student performance data to inform instructional strategies and identify areas for growth.
  4. Model effective, differentiated instruction in the classroom and assist teachers with specific classroom activities when requested.
  5. Provide resources and assist teachers in creating materials that are in alignment with curriculum.
  6. Provide assistance in researching instructional and/or curriculum issues.
  7. Provide encouragement and emotional support to teachers.
  8. Encourage ongoing professional growth for all teachers.
  9. Manage time and schedule flexibility to maximize teacher schedules and learning.
  10. Work positively toward meeting identified district and building improvement goals.
  11. Assist with development of district curriculum, instruction and assessments.
  12. Develop and maintain a confidential, collegial relationship with teachers.
  13. Possess an understanding of when to contact administrators regarding issues of safety/ethics.
  14. Participate fully in professional development opportunities to bring new and up-to-date knowledge to our district.
  15. Work collaboratively and collegially with the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment, other Instructional Coaches, and administration to align teaching strategies with district goals and state standards.
