Description

The Houston R-I School District is seeking a part-time Director of Communications beginning July 1, 2025. The director will work closely with district administration and directors to develop and implement a comprehensive and dynamic marketing/branding and communications strategy for the district.  The director will serve as the creative architect for all internal and external promotions and communications.  The director will be responsible to manage the district’s brand identity with internal and external audiences by managing a multifaceted communications strategy and practicing reputation management in support of the district’s mission.  The director will be responsible for capturing and highlighting campus life through various media including digital, print, and video.  Essentially, the director will “tell the story” of Houston R-I School.  

 

This is a part-time, 12-month position. A willingness to work outside of traditional business hours is essential, as peak periods and special events necessitate some evening and weekend work. 

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate External Communications:
    • Update and maintain district website and school calendar
    • Maintain district app, developing a system for information input/output from all parties 
    • Manage various district social media platforms (i.e. Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, etc.) with regular interaction
    • Assist with School Messenger communications, as needed
    • Update and maintain Tiger Times (District-wide newsletter)
  • Facilitate Internal Communications:
    • Establish systems for internal communications
    • Assist administration with emergency communications
    • Update and maintain the Staff Communicator using the Smore platform
  • Document and share campus activities and events. 
  • Promote/Market celebrations throughout the district.
  • Create campus signage and promotional signage for school events, as needed. 
  • Stay up-to-date on current social media trends and continue to explore new media opportunities

 

Qualifications and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferred.
  • 5 years marketing communications, preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with school staff, parents, students, businesses, and community members.
  • Attention to detail and outstanding organizational skills. 
  • Experience with digital photography, graphic design. Video production, a plus. 
  • Sound judgment relating to confidential projects, personnel, school, or student matters.
  • Ability to be a self-starter and work independently.
